Support Colorado Springs World Affairs Council
Dear Friends of the World Affairs Council:
I am writing on behalf of your Board of Directors with a special request that you include the Colorado Springs World Affairs Council in your charitable giving. If you are already a member, we thank you for your support and ask that you consider an additional pledge to support the Council’s educational outreach in the community. If you are not a member, please join us! It’s important – and here’s why.
In December 2011, I attended the annual conference of our national association, the World Affairs Councils of America, which focused on the Six Top US National Security Issues for the 2012 Election. These broadly defined priorities—US education for global competitiveness, US economic competitiveness, US energy policy, the Middle East, and China, and Iraq/Afghanistan—were identified last year in a survey of the leaders of our 92 councils across the country.
You are not just a supporter of the Colorado Springs World Affairs Council; you are also part of a non-partisan national movement dedicated to the proposition that America’s competitiveness in this rapidly changing world depends on the informed engagement of its citizens.
Our program agenda aligns with these priorities. This fall, we’ve already had programs on China, the Arab Spring, human rights in Iraq, and fragile states. On December 8th, we will convene the leadership of the USAF Academy, Colorado College, University of Colorado Colorado Springs, and Colorado Technical University on education and our global competitiveness. In the spring, we’ll be hosting experts on the state of the global economy, Latin America, non-military instruments of US foreign policy, Korea, and Africa.
Our program times and venues will alternate between Broadmoor luncheons and more informal evening receptions to make our programs more accessible to more people. Program details, as well as additional opportunities, are available on this website.
Our outreach to the next generation of global-minded citizens continues to expand. Our annual High School Symposium in September attracted a record attendance of nearly 500 students. In the spring, we will again host our popular Academic WorldQuest as well as our second annual high school teachers’ workshop, this year focusing on the global marketplace.
Your board is working hard to expand the Council’s membership, reaching out to partner organizations and rising professionals. We are also taking every possible step to minimize costs—and we especially appreciate your cooperation as we move to a way of doing business that is more “virtual,” without losing the personal connection.
The World Affairs Council provides a unique and important service to this community. We need to do more, limited only in resources and capacity. Your tax-deductible charitable donation will enable us to move forward on these many initiatives with greater resources and confidence.
Please send your pledge or check to the Council to the address in the footer of this page, or online by clicking the Donate button below. Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
