Long Range Strategic Planning
One of our objectives this year was to embark on a process of strategic and long range planning for the council. We have proceeded through four steps, and the fifth step is underway.
- First, conduct research on strategic plans of other leading councils in the U.S.
- Second, survey the board members and past leaders of our council,
- Third, develop new statements of vision and mission.
- Fourth, adopt key objectives, and
- Fifth, develop implementation strategies to achieve the objectives.
Here is the new and more succinct vision statement: The Colorado Springs World Affairs Council is dedicated to fostering an informed citizenry on matters of international significance.
Here is the new mission statement, which is more action oriented: The Colorado Springs World Affairs Council is a non-partisan organization, whose mission is to create and sustain study, discussion, and public participation in international relations.
The key objectives are:
- Broaden high quality program presentations to include alternative formats and venues
- Develop sustainable youth education program
- Expand into a more diverse and participatory membership
- Increase public awareness of international issues and council activities
- Pursue financial support and partnerships.
During the summer of 2007, teams had been established for each objective. The teams developed implementation strategies to accomplish the objectives. If a member wishes to participate in the process, please contact, please contact Larry Barrett at 719-634-4468.
