Seminars
In response to interest expressed by members of our discussion groups, the Council has been exploring the viability of occasional seminar sessions on timely international topics. The seminars are intended to supplement the discussion groups by taking opportunities that present themselves to draw in local specialists to anchor and lead focused examinations of contemporary issues.
During the 2006-7 season, we presented two such seminars, both conducted at the Worner Center on the Colorado College campus. They were on a weekday afternoon and lasted about two hours. These lively sessions featured panelists invited from the CC faculty. One addressed the impact of midterm elections on U.S. foreign policy and international relations. The second, in the spring, examined current Russian politics and U.S./Russian relations. The turnout for each seminar was strong and participants were appreciative, encouraging continuation of the program for 2007-8.
We anticipate at least two such seminars this year. E-mail announcements of when, where, who, and what will go to all members who take part in regular discussion groups and to all board members, and will be included on this web site. References to appropriate background readings will be added. All interested members of the CSWAC who respond (subject to space limitations) will be welcome, and we hope to keep the seminars free of charge.
